Colony morphology

1. Under the electron microscope, the size of the cells is generally 0.6~0.9*1.5~6.0μm, and they are arranged in single, double or 2-3 short chains. The thalli are usually slender rod shaped, without flagella and without movement.

2. On MRS Medium, the colonies formed were small, with smooth edges, raised and smooth surfaces, twinkling with oil, and the colonies were opaque and did not produce pigment.

Growth characteristics

1.the suitable growth temperature is 35~38℃, 20℃ no growth, high growth temperature 43℃~48℃, poor heat resistance; The suitable pH is 5.5~6.0, the initial growth pH is 5.0~7.0, acid resistance is strong, can grow in the environment where other lactic acid bacteria can not grow.

2. Lactobacillus acidophilus has a particularly strong ability of acid and bile salt resistance. When the bile salt concentration is 0.3% and pH value is 2.0, the survival rate of Lactobacillus acidophilus can reach 62.2%. Lactobacillus acidophilus has obvious permeability resistance, and its maximum tolerance concentration is 9% NaCI.
