Strain characteristics

Bifidobacterium infantile can be isolated from the feces of healthy adults and infants. It is one of the most common bacterial flora in the human intestine and is most abundant in the end of the large intestine. However, during weaning, the number of bifidobacterium infantile will decrease by a logarithmic value.

Source of strain

Bifidobacterium infantile was collected from Guangxi, Tibet, Yunnan and other regions, and a variety of Lactobacillus series strains were screened out by sampling the soil around the living areas and food of local residents.

Colony morphology

1. Under the electron microscope, cells may have irregular shapes such as curved, Y-shaped or V-shaped shapes, but less branching, and more elongated cells will not form chains.

2. The colonies are round and raised, smooth, with neat edges and opaque edges. The colonies are white or milky white.

Growing environment

1. Infant bifidobacterium grows in an absolutely anaerobic environment, and increasing carbon dioxide concentration may promote growth. The growth temperature ranges from 20 to 45℃, and the suitable growth temperature ranges from 36 to 38℃. The pH value ranges from 6.5 to 7.0, and it will not grow under pH values of 4.5 to 5.0 and 8.0 to 8.5.

2. This strain is strictly anaerobes without thixoenzyme activity, and its tolerance to oxygen varies with the number of passages. In the presence of oxygen, a small amount of thixoenzyme is activated to remove a small amount of hydrogen peroxide, and the presence of hydrogen peroxide will destroy the enzymes produced by carbohydrate metabolism, thus leading to the growth difficulty of the strain.
